Haynes Equipment Company, Inc. — founded 1961, headquartered in Olathe, Kansas — is one of the Midwest's leading manufacturers' representatives for municipal water and wastewater equipment, and an authorized E/One distributor.
What happens when an E/One grinder pump fails?
When an E/One pump fails, the water level rises until it triggers the Sentry panel's visual and audible alarm; if the homeowner ignores the alarm and continues running water, the tank will overflow, resulting in raw sewage backing up into the lowest drains in the house.
The E/One system is designed with a fail-safe warning mechanism precisely to prevent sewage backups.
When the pump motor stops (due to a power outage, a blown capacitor, or a jammed grinder), the tank stops emptying. As wastewater continues flowing from the house, the tank fills up. At a specific height, a redundant pressure switch engages the alarm. At this point, the homeowner has approximately 50 to 70 gallons of "freeboard" (empty space in the tank and the pipe coming from the house). If they stop using water, no backup will occur. If they ignore the alarm and run a full load of laundry, that reserve capacity is exhausted, and the sewage will seek the path of least resistance—usually backing up into a basement floor drain or a ground-floor shower.
